Shipwright's Palace going for 5 million

A naval treasure for the arty glitterati

This grand riverside London retreat would suit a banker or artist who has made it big
Deptford Misc posted on Friday with a link to Times Online Property here.

Deptford Misc fails to note that enormous efforts were once made to bring this building into the ownership of the local community with proposals for a museum/archival/public access by long gone community activists (perhaps including Deptford Misc) before it was bought by the present owners.

It might be hoped that Willie and Chris's desire for relocation will not affect their judgement when accepting a buyer (these guys know the area inside out and know what it needs). They have said they will not move if they cannot get the country home they have set their sights on.

But trust is low if the sale (whether lease or freehold) of the much loved Hales Gallery to Jennings/Coral Bookmakers (by Cllr Paul Maslin) a few years ago is anything to go by. Followed by the sale/rent to bookies by supposed art lovers ('Notice' now McDonells) and other totally uncontrolled developments referred to in recent posts.
